TANGENTEit’s time

tangente is a duo composed by the voices and violins of Beatriz Rola and Inês Lapa, whose compositions cross boundaries between written and improvised language. In the performance “it’s time”, the duo combines poetry with some themes from their EP ‘Poemografias’ (2022), and with sound reinterpretations of works by the so-called April singer-songwriters. 

Inês Lapa has a degree in Music Leadership from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama (London). For more than a decade, she has been developing her practice as a multi-instrumentalist composer, in collective and interdisciplinary projects in a wide variety of contexts. Since 2012 she has been part of PELE, a structure focused on Community Artistic Practices, directing several projects. In 2018, she joined the teams of Casa da Música and Matosinhos Jazz Orchestra Educational Service as a regular trainer. She has directed vocal and instrumental groups in workshops and community presentations, and played in various collective improvisation and composition ensembles, collaborating in the creation of interdisciplinary performances and installations, as well as in collectives related to traditional music. In 2022, she released her first album by tangente, a duo of violins and voices where she develops her practice as a composer and performer.

Beatriz Rola is musician, creator and arts educator. Beatriz Rola has a degree in music from the Royal Academy of Music and attended the MA in Music Leadership at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Besides her practice in creation and interpretation as a violinist, she develops artistic creation work in the community. She currently collaborates as an artistic educator and music director with the Casa da Música Educational Service, the Matosinhos Jazz Orchestra Educational Program, Circuito - Braga Media Arts Educational Service and Mater 17 - COR(P)O Metropolitano da Área Metropolitana. She has been a member of the MEXE Association since 2023. She was responsible for the musical direction of the show “Como se nada Fosse”, by the Bonfim Community Theatre Group, presented as part of the Cultura em Expansão program and at the São João National Theatre. In 2023, she was co-creator of the show for babies “Cenas Infantis”, presented at Casa da Música and co-creator of the film-concert “Segundo de Chomón”, presented by the duo tangente in the Cultura em Expansão program. In 2021, she released her debut album with the tangente duo “Poemografias”, under the label Respirar de Ouvido with the support of Antena 2 and Garantir Cultura. She is a member of the bands Retimbrar, tangente and Kalea trio.
